A complete renovation blends the character of a mid-century Savannah home with a fresh, timeless palette.

Some rooms quietly reveal a home’s history. Others announce it in black-and-white pinstripes, yellow countertops, and bold red brick. The kitchen in this Savannah home—built in 1953—did both. It was full of original details and decades of personality, but it was ready for a brighter, more functional chapter.

Before: A Kitchen Frozen in Time

The eating area featured black-and-white pinstripe wallpaper, while the original wall cabinets had remained in place since the house was built. Red brick surrounded the sink and stove area, creating a strong focal point alongside sunny yellow countertops. Black-and-white floor tiles completed the vintage look.

Although these elements reflected the home’s past, the room no longer matched the clean, airy atmosphere I wanted. A surface-level update would not be enough, so I chose to completely gut the kitchen and rebuild it from the ground up.

After: A Fresh, Timeless Transformation

The new design begins with light gray walls, which create a soft and calming backdrop. Crisp white cabinets brighten the room and provide a timeless foundation, while a glass backsplash in shades of gray and white adds subtle texture and shine. White quartz countertops complete the streamlined palette and give the kitchen a polished, durable work surface.

Porcelain floor tile replaced the old black-and-white flooring, bringing a refined finish underfoot. All-new appliances make the space more efficient for everyday cooking and entertaining. Overhead, a ceiling fan adds comfort, while a modern chandelier gives the room a stylish focal point and a touch of personality.
