Beyond Comfort and Style when Purchasing

Updated: Jul 4, 2025

What inspire you when purchasing furniture?  For me the idea of purchasing something new will excite me in a positive way that leaves me with concepts that are based on looks, quality, function and price.

During my years as a Product Specialist/Design Consultant I realized buying furniture is

not an easy task.  Actually, it’s an emotional decision.  Consumers want to know that they are purchasing the right style for their room.  However, what’s more important is value!!!

Most consumers should know the value of what they are purchasing.  They tend to look at style and comfort first.    It’s important that you as a consumer research information regarding the furniture you are interested in.  Quality testing is a must.  Your product specialist should also be able to give you details regarding the construction of the product, inform you on the type of wood and be able to give you information regarding the fabric of your choice and how to care for it.

Your home should reflect your personality.  Think of colors you like or colors you never used before.  Think of combination elements such as glass, wood, metal, fabric, leather or fur.  Art work and mirrors are always a plus.

How is the room being used?  Is it a family room where you can lay around and put your feet up or is it a room where everything has to be neat at all times?  This is when you figure out what type of furniture and fabric is going to be used.

Space is also important.  It determines the amount of pieces you need so that your room won’t look clutter.  Know the size of your room.  It amazes me that so many people shop for furniture and don’t know the size of their room. Many retail stores have room planners which you can actually design your room to scale and place furniture in it, that way you can see how your room is going to look.   Also, it’s good to know the size of the furniture you want to purchase.  It makes your buying process so much easier so that you won’t experience a “No Fi”.  Who wants to take time off from work to receive furniture and when it arrives it does not fit?

I hope the information given will give you a great shopping experience.

Until next time,
