The house is a one level all brick ranch which was built in 1955. I envision mid-century décor with a mix of modern classic. Before and after pictures of the kitchen, wooden floors and backyard are posted below now that they are completed. My time was limited in Savannah, therefore I had to plan the process weeks before I returned. I started with the kitchen. The last time I was in Savannah I hired a contractor that was referred to me. He came to the house I showed him the kitchen and informed him what I wanted. He gave me his expert advice as well as labor cost which I was in agreement. Over the years the original cabinets which was build-in, have been painted and had layers of black and white paint that has never been removed.
My contractor started the demo of removing the faux bricks, old cabinets and floor one week before everything are to arrive for installation. After researching several companies for cabinets I was disappointed with their delivery schedule, therefore my contractor introduced me to a company that he partners with when he makes purchases. My contractor, the design consultant and I partner with one another to be on the same page with measurements for the cabinets. Keep in mind the contractor, design consultant were in Savannah and I'm in New York forwarding photos of what I desire and consulting over the phone. I wanted no mistakes for as I indicated my time was very limited in Savannah when I arrive I needed everything to be correct and beautiful.
My husband and I arrived in Savannah and my contractor had already leveled the floor and laid down the floor tile which is just beautiful. My cabinets arrived the very next day for installation. Yay! They are everything I expected them to be however, once put in place everything was not measured outright and the cabinets could not be returned. I was soooo disappointed! To makeup in the area of where the cabinets were shorten a space saver was added and everything worked out just fine. My appliances came the following day and was set in place. The counter tops came the day after the appliances for installation.
While all of this is going on my husband had rented a machine to sand all of the wooden floors throughout the house and what a wonderful job he has done. Believe it or not this was the first time he had sand floors. He watched several videos on You-Tube and decided to start a DIY project which was a great savings to us. During our stay he did not have enough time to stain or polyurethane the floors therefore it will be done on our next trip. On my next trip my husband was not able to attend therefore my daughter met me, she lives in Atlanta Georgia, and together we joined forces and accomplished a lot. While my daughter removed three layers of wall paper in the bathroom I was busy staining the dining room, living room and bedroom floors.
work-in-progress, yet I can see great results!
1. Be physically present when working on a project
2. Be mentally prepared for things not always working out
1. My inheritance is a blessing (favor)
2. Being grateful to my contractor for his help and going above and beyond with his service
Until next time,
